Here We Go!

It's official. If you have been considering a painting trip of a lifetime this might be the one. I'm working with a wonderful company, IlChiostro, and we have planned a week of painting the wonderful streets of Venice next year. I feel so grateful to be teaching oil painting and to have the opportunity to travel and teach. Read on!

Ignite Your Creative Spark in the Fascinating City of Venice

One of the best reasons for an artist to travel is that the experience will most likely ignite a creative spark.  Imagine being surrounded by the beauty of the romantic city of Venice with paintbrushes in hand!

Venice is a great city of the world and it is pure enchantment.  Spend a whole week getting to know the back canals, wandering the quiet streets at dawn and feeling your way through the evening mist.  For centuries artists have come to Venice to try to capture its unique setting on the lagoon.

The simplification of design & composition while learning to “see” like an artist will be our focus for the week. Randy will teach the participants how to interpret the magical surroundings of Venice in terms of paint, while at the same time focusing on the art of simplicity. In her teaching experience, learning to simplify what is in front of us is one of the most important fundamental elements of painting. The other focus will be values, shapes, color and capturing the lyrical patterns in the scene, as they relate to painting in the field.

There will be a brief demonstration each day and one-on-one advice in the field. Oil paint is the medium for this workshop. A complete informational sheet will be sent out with the supplies needed, as well as tips and tricks for traveling with your supplies.  Are you ready to pack your brushes?

General Activities:  Our daily painting in Venice will be combined with other adventures such as:

• A guided walking art history tour of Venice
• Visit to morning fish market
• Visit to selected outer islands in the lagoon (Burano)
• Selected evening activities such as visit to San Marco when the orchestras play
• Studio time to work on the compositions you started on location

Our first gathering will be an orientation at 6pm on the first Saturday followed by a dinner with the group.  After that, most activities for the week will be organized around the individual workshops but all participants will come together for meals and events like the guided walking tour of selected highlights of Venice. Then, at the end of the week the artists will stage an exhibit of their work to share their visual impressions of enigmatic Venice.

Accommodations: The week will be spent in the historic Dorsoduro area, away from the madness of San Marco. We will enjoy great accommodations in an ex-convent and traditional cuisine at local restaurants or prepared by our personal chef.  It will be an ideal place to improve  your painting skills while working to develop your personal style.  Click the Accommodations tab above for more information about the convent where we’ll stay.

Meals: During the week we will have 5 dinners together. To experience a good cross-section of typical Venetian cuisine we will sample diverse neighborhood trattorie and Michael and Linda will host our group for two home-cooked meals with ingredients we find at the outdoor market. Two nights of the week you will be on your own to follow your nose to restaurants or concerts or the opera or whatever else might pique your curiosity. There is plenty of time for independent exploration.  Breakfast is not served at the convent, so we will have vouchers for a typical Venetian breakfast at a local cafe.

Non-painting partners/friends are always welcome.  Non participant fee is $2,195.

To Register:  just click on the Sign Up Now button.  A non-refundable deposit of $500 is required to secure your spot in the workshop.  Payment can be made on line with a credit card, or you can follow the instructions to send in your registration and payment by mail.  Once we receive your deposit we will send you a formal Registration Confirmation with further information about the program.  You will receive 2-3 other correspondences by email prior to the workshop with information about Italy, a supplies list and an electronic invoice for the balance.  Final Balance is due by September 1st.  Any time prior to your arrival, if you have questions about anything regarding the trip or the program, you can contact us by email or phone and we`ll be happy to assist you.
